Changes to results: what does this mean?

Following the announcement of 17 August by Welsh Government, students who have received A Level / AS Level / Welsh Baccalaureate (Skills Challenge Certificate) results this summer from the WJEC will have their grade updated to the grade we submitted to the exam board (Centre Assessed Grade or CAG).

Gower College Swansea exam results 2020

Students at Gower College Swansea are celebrating an overall A Level pass rate of 99%, with 1255 separate exam entries.

Of these passes, 34% were at grades A*-A, 61% were at A*-B and 85% were at A*-C.

The overall pass rate at AS Level was 91%, with 66% of those passes being grades A - C and 43% being grades A - B. There were 2610 separate exam entries for AS.

The College’s vocational results are also strong again this year with a 99% pass rate across Level 3 Extended Diplomas. An impressive 64% of these students achieved at least one Distinction.

Update from Principal, Mark Jones (11 August)

We have now received the final part of the Welsh Government’s guidance that will allow the College to reopen at the beginning of September. 

Even though this guidance has been delayed, we have been working with Welsh Government colleagues throughout the summer and I am now pleased to be able to share our plans for September.

However, I do need to remind everyone of the College’s two key priorities as our plans are based on what we believe are the best means of achieving both of these.

Arrangements for results 2020 - updated

Update 19 August 2020

All students will be able to access their exam results from the examination details section of their eLIP. Alternatively, you can log onto the engage app after 8.30am on results day.

If you have any problems logging on, visit this page on the website 

GCSE results will issue on Thursday 20 August after 8.30am.

Update from Principal Mark Jones (6 August)

In the past few days we have now received guidance from Welsh Government on the arrangements for both the reopening of further education colleges and for school and college transport.

This guidance allows for a return to face to face teaching for our full time students, provided that they are managed in cohorts. We are calling this our Plan A.

The future is bright for Access students

The future is bright for Access students

Over 220 Access students at Gower College Swansea have received their Diplomas this summer.

92% of those have secured the university place of their choice on programmes that include nursing, midwifery, law and social work. 

This is fantastic news after what has been a very challenging academic year.

One student heading for university is Melenie Jane Box, who started at the College on a Level 2 Essential Skills course before progressing to the Level 3 Access to Law.

Engineering Tutor/Assessor and former student wins “Best Academic Industrial Collaboration” award

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Roberts, Engineering Tutor/Assessor at Gower College Swansea and former HNC, HND and NVQ Level 4 student has scooped the Best Academic Industrial Collaboration Award from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a result of her First Class Bachelors of Engineering degree dissertation project.

Gower College Swansea sign partnership with Chinese school

A very unique and special signing ceremony was held on Wednesday 1 July between Gower College Swansea and Huashang Foreign Language Experimental School, Guangdong Province, China.

Huashang Foreign Language Experimental School is an international school with primary, junior and high school education, on a campus which occupies circa 60,000 square metres.

Internationalisation is a priority for Gower College Swansea, and it welcomes students from China each year to study a range of programmes, including our A Levels.

Virtual graduation ceremony for international students

Thanks to the wonders of digital technology, our international students had a very different graduation ceremony to previous years.

On the 29 June, our A Level students attended an online event, which had various messages from staff across the College, including Principal, Mark Jones.

Students enjoyed a slideshow of their social programme followed by a presentation of the certificates by Terry Summerfield, International Tutor.

Employment Hub reopens – confirming commitment to tackling unemployment

Mark Jones, Principal of Gower College Swansea, explains how the College is planning to help people get the support they need to secure and retain employment.

Of all of the challenges we have faced in recent months as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and possibly the greatest one that still lies in front of us, is the projections that around 7.6 million jobs or around 24% of the UK workforce could be at risk because of the lockdown period.
