A festive trip to town for Catering students

Catering and Hospitality students from Gower College Swansea have visited Morgans Hotel in the city centre where they enjoyed a ‘behind the scenes’ tour.

“I wanted my tutor group to explore the types of career opportunities that are available within the hotel industry and to have a look around this fantastic local venue,” says lecturer Stephen Williams, who organised the trip alongside Lucy Turtle from the college’s Reaching Wider team.

“The management and the Accommodations team at Morgans not only provided us with coffee and mince pies after the tour but they also gave a very generous donation for us to put towards our Mr X Appeal collection," adds Lucy.

Among the students was Jamie McLean for whom the day had a special significance.

“I really enjoyed the visit to Morgans – it gave me an insight into the industry and it’s something I want to pursue as a career after College,” he said. “But the highlight of the day was shopping in Toys R Us for the Mr X Appeal. I was once a recipient of the Mr X Appeal so it felt very special to be involved."

"The aims of Reaching Wider are to increase participation in higher education and improve employment prospects," adds Lucy. "So this was a great opportunity for the students to experience a very successful hospitality business in Swansea. We'd also like to thank Morgans Hotel and Toys R Us for their support and donations.”
