Certificates represent skills development for learners

Staff at a local care home have received certificates from Gower College Swansea in recognition of their skills development in Catering and Cleaning and Support Services.

Members of the catering and housekeeping teams at Awel Y Mor Care Home in Gorseinon have been working towards gaining these qualifications over the past 18 months.

Certificates were awarded to Ruth Davies (Level 1 Certificate Catering) and Ashleigh Evans (Level 2 Diploma Catering.) The housekeeping team, supervised by Joanna Boyes, achieved two Level 2 Certificates and four Level 1 certificates in Catering and Cleaning and Support Services.

GCS Training Commercial Coordinator John Crockett and Assessor Linda Burns have worked alongside the candidates and Awel Y Mor’s Training Manager Richard Webster.

Awel-Y-Mor, which is part of the Barchester Group, is a rehabilitation centre with a proven track record of supporting the local community. It provides high dependency care, active and slow-stream rehabilitation and respite care.

“These members of staff are the first from the Barchester Group to receive these qualifications and they will now progress onto the Level 2 and Level 3 courses with the City & Guilds awarding body,” says Linda. “The GCS Training team look forward to working with them to support this great achievement.”
