Students encouraged to bring ideas to life

'Big Ideas' Role Model Benedict Room has delivered a successful business workshop to Vocational Studies students at Gower College Swansea.

“I wanted my group to meet a well-established local entrepreneur who could convey the exhilaration of running a business," says organiser Lucy Turtle. "They gained a great understanding from Ben of the attitudes needed to succeed and were also encouraged to explore their own abilities to bring ideas to life."

“It was great to see these potential entrepreneurs of tomorrow being allowed to hone their skills in this way," adds Ben who runs BRD Sports in the Gower. "These students are so enthusiastic and have such amazing support from The Bridge Programme team - this seems like a real recipe for future success.”

“I enjoyed meeting Ben," says student Lewis Taylor. "I learned a lot of new enterprise skills and what being an entrepreneur is all about. It’s made me realize that I could turn a business of my own into a hobby instead of thinking it is just work.”

The session formed part of the Enterprise qualification on The Bridge Programme.

The Bridge programme is aimed at young people aged 16-19 who are undecided about their future career path. It gives them an opportunity to sample a range of different subject areas, enabling them to make informed decisions about their next step and equipping them with skills and qualities that are required by employers and which make them better prepared for the world of work.

The Bridge team now plan to collaborate further with BRD Sports to organise an event in the local community.
