Twin Town writer inspires students

Paul Durden, the co-writer of Twin Town, delivered a recent workshop to Vocational Studies students at Gower College Swansea as part of their media qualification.

During his visit to the Tycoch campus, Mr Durden discussed the making of the film and the different type of job roles involved in its production.

Twin Town is a 1997 British crime drama filmed in Swansea and starring real-life brothers Rhys Ifans (in his first major movie role) and Llŷr Ifans along with Dougray Scott.

“This was a great opportunity for any students who are thinking about working in the creative industries to gain an understanding of working behind the scenes of a film and a 'heads-up' on the opportunities available," says lecturer Lucy Turtle. “Mr Durden shared stories about the making of the film - the fact that the location manager struggled to find houses and social clubs to suit the characters of the film and also about relying on good weather as it was set during the summer months.”

The Bridge Programme is aimed at young people aged 16-19 who are undecided about their future career path. It gives them an opportunity to sample a range of different subject areas, enabling them to make informed decisions about their next step and equipping them with skills and qualities that are required by employers and which make them better prepared for the world of work.
