Update on student and staff covid testing

As you are aware, the Welsh Government have now lifted most covid-19 restrictions and we are slowly moving back to life pre-pandemic.

However, the advice to both schools and colleges is to continue to operate with the health and safety measures we already have in place. This will help to ensure we can keep everyone learning.

Gower College Swansea celebrates Rainbow Week

Students and staff at Gower College Swansea are taking part in Rainbow Week, an event dedicated to raising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and celebrating inclusivity and the safe and supportive environment of the College.

The week was officially launched by hugely successful boxing manager and promoter Kellie Maloney who visited the Tycoch Campus to share her personal story of transitioning – an event which was livestreamed across the College for those who could not attend in person.

Impressive Skills medal haul for College students

Gower College Swansea is celebrating after scooping an amazing 20 medals at the recent Skills Competition Wales suite of events.

Skills Competition Wales aims to raise the profile of skills in Wales and offers students, trainees and apprentices a chance to challenge, benchmark and raise their skills by taking part in competitions across a range of sectors.

The competitions provide an opportunity for vocational learners to showcase and gain recognition for their skills in their chosen sector and to progress onto national and international competitions.

A return to rock for Gower College Swansea students

Two years of Covid restrictions have had a huge impact on the music industry. With performances either banned or heavily restricted, it has been a tough time for aspiring young musicians. Music performance students at Gower College Swansea adapted as best as they could, but closed-door live streams and socially distanced seated audiences haven’t been quite the same.

This all changed on Valentine’s Day as the learners took to the Bunkhouse in Swansea for a night of music.

Ambitious landscaping project moves to phase 2

Landscaping students at Gower College Swansea have been putting the finishing touches to a very special memorial garden at the Tycoch Campus.

College achieves CyberFirst Award

Gower College Swansea has obtained a Silver CyberFirst Colleges Recognition Award from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The award is given in recognition of the College’s commitment to cyber security education.

The NCSC, which is part of GCHQ, aims to recognise schools and colleges whose approach to cyber security education is deemed excellent.
