Important update re: week commencing 4 January 2021

For all parents and students: You may be aware that on the afternoon of Thursday 10 December, the Education Minister announced that colleges and secondary schools would move to online learning for next week – that is, the week commencing 14 December.

Of course this will make very little difference here at Gower College Swansea since we had already announced that the small number of courses and tutorial sessions arranged for next week would be delivered online.

New Partner School in Noida, India

Gower College Swansea has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Prometheus School in Noida, India.

Prometheus School is CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Education) accredited and was attracted to Gower College Swansea by our experience and success in the A Level programme. This exciting partnership will collaborate on a number of areas including summer and winter schools, online tutorials, and the Oxbridge Preparation Programme.

On yer bike for Kenya

Each year Gower College Swansea students hold a series of fundraising events in support of the Kenya Community Education Project and, despite restrictions due to the pandemic, they found a way to do it in 2020!

The students at Gorseinon and Tycoch campuses competed against each other on bikes to virtually cover the distance from Nairobi to Sigmore to raise money for Madungu Primary School, with which the College has a long-standing association.

Update to advice on face coverings whilst at College

Following a recent change to Welsh Government guidance, it will now be mandatory for all staff, students and visitors to wear a face covering outside as well as inside when on campus grounds. 

If you wear a face shield, please be reminded that a face covering must be worn in addition.

Quality Standard Carer Support logo for the Carers Federation Limited

College achieves top support accreditation

Gower College Swansea are proud to have achieved the Quality Standard Carers Support (QSCS) accreditation from the Carers Federation for the high level of support it offers young adult carers. The QSCS will help to raise awareness, remove some of the barriers for carers, develop appropriate policies and procedures and improve access to support.

This year’s difficulties and demands have been unprecedented for students and so it is important to applaud the efforts of the Student Support Team and this award demonstrates their good practice within the College.

A demonstration of world-class skills

Gower College Swansea joins forces with WorldSkills UK to demonstrate world-class skills.

Students at Gower College Swansea demonstrated their world-class electronic engineering skills when they took part in a virtual training event with students from across China. 

The event was the first of its kind to be held in Wales, and was organised by WorldSkills UK, the education and skills charity, supporting its programme to exchange best practice in skills development with countries around the world.

As the firebreak lockdown comes to a close, here is some important information for when you return to College next week.

From Monday 9 November

We will now resume our face to face method of teaching for all our full time students.

If you are a part time student or an apprentice, your course will resume in the same way as it did before the firebreak lockdown.
