Pupils enjoy sunny sports festival

Over 500 pupils from primary schools across Swansea have taken part in Gower College Swansea’s annual Dragon Multi-Skills and Sport Festival at the Elba Sports Complex.

In beautiful sunshine, the pupils were put through their paces in a range of activities such as hockey, rounders, football, netball, rugby and golf.

Former student named VQ Intermediate Learner of the Year 2019

Former Gower College Swansea student Collette Gorvett has been named Intermediate Learner of the Year at the VQ Awards 2019.

Collette, who now works at The Ritz in London, joined Gower College Swansea in 2015 to study the Level 1 Diploma in Professional Cookery before progressing through to Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery, Kitchen and Larder.

Three students in the running for VQ Awards 2019

Gower College Swansea is absolutely delighted to have not one, not two, but three students named as VQ Award finalists for 2019.

First up is Reagan Locke, who is in the running for the title of VQ Higher Learner of the Year.

For the past three years, Reagan has worked within the technical laboratories of Tata Steel. He has also successfully completed a Higher National Certificate in Applied Chemistry (Distinction) at Gower College Swansea, which allowed him to progress straight into a second year part time degree course in chemistry at Swansea University.

College in the running for Responsible Business Award

Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted for a Wales Responsible Business Award by Business in the Community (BITC) Cymru.

The College is in the running for the Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Wellbeing at Work Award in recognition of its delivery of a ‘menopause in the workplace’ seminar that took place at the Tycoch Campus in November 2018.

Students at Gower College Swansea’s Llwyn y Bryn Campus are aiming high for university places, with some even following in the footsteps of Stella McCartney. They are all currently studying the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, while offers are coming in from specialist art colleges and top universities across the UK.

Statement re: incident at College on Thursday 2 May

Late yesterday afternoon (Thursday 2 May) Gower College Swansea received anonymous information.

Due to the nature of this information and our priority of ensuring that we do everything possible to safeguard the health and safety of all our students and staff, we immediately contacted South Wales Police for advice.

On arrival, the Police asked us to evacuate the Tycoch Campus (including Hill House, Sports Centre and Broadway) as a precaution before undertaking a full search of the site.

Nothing suspicious was found and the College has now reopened.

Our International students were among a group of over 80 learners who attended this year’s Swansea HE+ Consortium visit to Cambridge.

The event included subject specific masterclasses, college visits and a relaxing punting session on the River Cam.
