Eleven students heading to Oxbridge

Eleven students from Gower College Swansea have been offered a place to study at Oxford or Cambridge University in 2019.

These students are all following the Oxbridge Programme at the Gorseinon Campus, which aims to provide the best possible preparation for students aiming to progress to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities.

Urgent notice re: inclement weather Thursday 31 January - updated

Due to the inclement weather forecast for tonight (31 January) we have decided to cancel all our part time evening classes across all campuses - from 5pm.

The Parent's Evening due to take place at Gorseinon tonight (31 January) is postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Please note our Sport Centre at Tycoch Campus has also closed for the evening.

ILS students make their mark at skills competition

Independent Living Skills students from Gower College Swansea have participated in the Inclusive Skills competition at Newtown College.

Callum East, who is studying on the Introduction to Further Education (Life Skills) course, won the Gold medal in the Restaurant Services - Table Laying competition.

Siobhan Ashour, who is studying on the Work Preparation course, secured a Bronze medal for her work in the Food Preparation competition.

Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted for seven categories in top HR Awards

Gower College Swansea has been revealed as a finalist in seven categories in the 2019 Wales HR Awards, which recognises and celebrates the achievements of HR professionals across Wales.

Launched in 2017, the Awards ceremony is the flagship event of the Wales HR Network, a leading professional thought sharing and networking group created and run by Cardiff-based commercial law firm Darwin Gray and Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment specialist.

Gold and Silver medals for Tycoch students

Electronic Engineering students from Gower College Swansea scooped two of the top three prizes at the recent Skills Competition Wales finals (Industrial Electronics).

Taking home the Gold was Rhys Watts, closely followed by Ben Lewis with a Silver - both students are on Level 3 courses at the Tycoch Campus.

Daniel Holmes from Coleg Cambria was placed third.

The Skills Competition Wales finals were held over two days, with the Southern region hosted by Gower College Swansea and the Northern region competitors gathering at Coleg Cambria.

Apprentices set for national finals

Gower College Swansea is getting ready to host the national finals of a prestigious Apprentice of the Year competition on 24 January.

Among the competitors are three Gower College Swansea students who are hoping to secure a place in the Grand UK Final in Cheltenham in March.

College celebrates British Education Award nominations

Two members of staff and one student from Gower College Swansea have been shortlisted for a prestigious British Education Award (BEA).

The British Education Awards have been established to promote excellence in British education. They recognise the value and importance of education and learning as the foundation to a good quality of life and for the future success of the nation.

Tycoch-based Engineering tutor/assessor Lizzie Roberts has been nominated in the Vocational category by her Learning Area Manager Dave Cranmer.

Continued maths success

Continued maths success

A total of 65 students from Gower College Swansea took part in the recent Individual Senior Maths Challenge (these challenges are undertaken by more than 600,000 students from more than 4000 schools and college across the UK).

Gower College Swansea students gained 11 Golds, 11 Silvers and 15 Bronzes, with ten students scoring highly enough to go through to the next round of the competition.

Nine of these were from our International cohort - pictured here are Tony, Brian, Jonas, Jasmine, Lucy and Faye.
