GCS students take top two places at SkillsCompetition Wales final

Engineering students from Gower College Swansea took the top two places at the recent SkillsCompetition Electronics all Wales final.

Niko Leuchtenberg and Matthew Sutch, who are studying towards the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (Digital Technology) at the Tycoch campus, scooped Gold and Silver respectively at the event at Coleg Cambria.

There were three separate sections to the final – construction of a circuit, prototype of a circuit and a theory examination – which all 15 competitors had to complete within a set time.

Llwyddiant myfyrwyr cerdd yng nghymal rhanbarthol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru

Mae bandiau sy’n cynnwys myfyrwyr galwedigaethol Lefel 3 Cerddoriaeth o Goleg Gŵyr Abertawe wedi ennill rhai o’r prif wobrau yng nghymal rhanbarthol Cerddoriaeth Boblogaidd Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru yn ddiweddar.

Roedd y myfyrwyr, o’r cwrs Diploma Estynedig ar gampws Llwyn y Bryn, wedi cystadlu yn erbyn cerddorion o wyth coleg arall ar hyd a lled Cymru, gan berfformio dwy gân wreiddiol yr un o flaen panel o feirniaid.

Enillodd Zen Dogs y wobr Aur ac enillodd Inscape y wobr Efydd yn ystod y digwyddiad yn Theatr Ffwrnes, Llanelli.

Music students take top prizes at SkillsCompetition Wales regional heat

Bands comprising Level 3 Vocational Music students from Gower College Swansea swept the board at the recent SkillsCompetition Wales Popular Music regional heat.

The students, from the Extended Diploma course at the Llwyn y Bryn campus, competed against musicians from eight other colleges across Wales, performing two original songs each before a panel of judges.

Zen Dogs took Gold and Inscape were awarded Bronze at the event at Theatr Ffwrnes in Llanelli.

Mae myfyrwraig Arlwyo Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe, Charlotte Walker, wedi ennill y wobr Arian yn rownd derfynol coginio Pâtissierie Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru.

Mae Charlotte yn astudio ar gyfer cymhwyster VRQ Lefel 2 Coginio Proffesiynol ar gampws Tycoch ac roedd hi wedi cystadlu yn erbyn wyth myfyriwr arall ar y diwrnod.

Roedd Charlotte wedi paratoi dewis blasus o ddanteithion melys ar gyfer y digwyddiad gan gynnwys roulade wedi'i addurno a'i lenwi â crème pâtissière, bisgedi sabl almon a phwdin swffle toddi yn y canol mewn dim ond tair awr.

Success is sweet for Charlotte

Gower College Swansea Catering student Charlotte Walker has taken Silver at the SkillsCompetition Wales Patisserie final.

Charlotte, who is studying for her VRQ Level 2 Professional Cookery qualification at the Tycoch campus, competed against eight other students on the day.

For the event, Charlotte prepared a delicious selection of sweet treats comprising decorated roulade filled with crème pâtissière, almond sable biscuits and a melting middle soufflé pudding in just three hours.

Myfyrwyr menter yn ennill Gwobr Ian Bennett

Mae tîm o fyfyrwyr Coleg Gŵyr Abertawe wedi ennill Gwobr Ian Bennett yn Rownd Derfynol yr Her Menter Fyd-eang yng Nghaerdydd.

Roedd myfyrwyr galwedigaethol y Cyfryngau Creadigol Kieran Palfrey, Talisha Weston ac Oliver Draper a’r myfyrwyr Safon Uwch Brad David, Rhys Cozens, Shazia Ali a Josh David-Reed wedi cynrychioli’r coleg yng Nghanolfan Mileniwm Cymru.

Mae Gwobr Ian Bennett yn cael ei rhoi i’r tîm ‘mwyaf difyr, mwyaf cymwynasgar a mwyaf cefnogol' yn dilyn pleidlais gan y myfyrwyr eraill yn ystod yr her dau ddiwrnod.

Enterprise students scoop Ian Bennett Award

A team of students from Gower College Swansea has scooped the Ian Bennett Award at the Global Enterprise Challenge Grand Final in Cardiff.

Vocational Creative Media students Kieran Palfrey, Talisha Weston and Oliver Draper and A Level students Brad David, Rhys Cozens, Shazia Ali and Josh David-Reed represented the college at the Wales Millennium Centre.

The Ian Bennett Award is given to the team voted as the 'most fun, most helpful and most supportive' by other students over the two day challenge.

Llwyddiant Eisteddfod Yr Urdd

Llongyfarchiadau i Katherine Ress a Emily Olsen ar ddod yn gyntaf yn Eisteddfod Cylch Uwchradd Llwchwr nos Wener 6ed Fawrth yn Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. Roedd Emily yn cystadlu yn yr unawd piano dan 19oed, a Katherine yn yr unawd i ferched dan 19.

Cafwyd noson hir, ond llawn adloniant, a chanmoliaeth uchel i’r ddau. Bydd yr Eisteddfod Sir yn Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe ar yr 20fed Fawrth. Bydd Ben Anthony yn ymuno a Katherine Rees i ganu deuawd, a bydd Katherine hefyd yn canu alaw werin dan 19 yno.

Urdd Eisteddfod Success

Congratulations to Katherine Rees and Emily Olsen who achieved First place in the Loughor round of the Urdd Eisteddfod at Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr on 6 March.

Emily was competing in the under-19 piano solo and Katherine in the female solo. We had a long, but highly entertaining, evening and there was great praise for them both. The County Eisteddfod will be held at Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe on the 20 March.

A group of Art students from Llwyn y Bryn, Tycoch and Gorseinon also took part in the Art, Design and Technology competitions. The results were:

Coleg yn croesawu cymal rhanbarthol Trin Gwallt Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru

Yn ddiweddar cynhaliwyd rownd derfynol ranbarthol Cystadleuaeth Sgiliau Cymru mewn Torri a Lliwio Uwch (trin gwallt) yng Ngholeg Gŵyr Abertawe.

Roedd cynllunwyr gwallt ar draws De Cymru wedi ymgynnull yng Nghanolfan Trin Gwallt, Harddwch a Holisteg Broadway i ddangos eu doniau gan ddefnyddio’r siswrn a’r chwistrell.

Ymhlith y panel o feirniaid oedd gweithwyr proffesiynol yn y diwydiant gan gynnwys Mike Morgan Swinhoe o M’s International, Lara Johnson, Vicky Jones o Unique Hair Design a’r cyfarwyddwr salon a’r cyn-fyfyriwr Casey Coleman.
