Study Preparation 1 - Skills For Industry and Work

Course Overview

This course is designed for learners progressing from Entry Level 1 who wish to improve their study skills and progress onto a higher level course within ILS.

Learners will undertake a variety of learning experiences while improving their literacy and numeracy skills. Students on this course will have the opportunity to participate in such lessons as: Using Public Transport; Art; Music; Cookery and Personal Safety. This will be taught alongside literacy and numeracy.

Students will also participate in the John Muir Environmental Award and access the vocational electives classes. There will also be opportunities for volunteering and working in the community.

Entry Requirements

Students will be expected to be working at Entry 1 and towards Entry 2. Students must show a commitment to progression at college and a desire to improve their skills. All potential students will have an informal interview with the course tutor and undertake an initial assessment.

Course Delivery

The course will delivered both in the classroom and at various locations and settings in and around Swansea.

Assessment will be through internally set assignments and will include written work, art work, video and photographic evidence. Literacy and numeracy will be assessed through externally set assignments provided by City & Guilds.
