Grand Finals beckon for College apprentices

Two students from Gower College Swansea will represent Wales on the national stage at upcoming electrical and plumbing competitions. Jay Popham was named the winner of the recent regional heat of the SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year Competition which was held at the College’s Jubilee Court campus.

Global Entrepreneurship Week - where ideas come to life

Staff and students at Gower College Swansea have celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week with a range of events and activities across the campus. The week kicked off with a visit by Art and Design students to Swansea Business Gate and the film set of Da Vinci’s Demons, where they learned all about the kinds of employment opportunities that exist in the film and television industry.

Sean wins Institution of Engineering and Technology award

Gower College Swansea student, Sean Sarsfield, has won the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Further Education award for south west Wales. The presentation was made by the Chairman for the 2013/2014 session of the IET Local Network for Wales South West.

Corey runner up at VQ Learner of the Year Awards

Story courtesy of Duncan Foulkes Public Relations: Seventeen year old electronics learner Corey Nixon from Gower College Swansea was a runner up at Wales’ VQ Learner of the Year showpiece awards ceremony on VQ Day at Coleg y Cymoedd’s Nantgarw Campus. He was one of six finalists from across Wales who were all congratulated by Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, Ken Skates.

Students take top three places in the Industrial Electronics World Skills Welsh Regional Final

Gower College Swansea hosted the Industrial Electronics World Skills Welsh Regional Final on 3 June and saw its own students securing first, second and third places! Corey Nixon came out on top, having already won the Welsh Industrial Skills Final. Christopher Protheroe took second place and Chantelle Simpson came third.

Alex comes out on top in WJEC Electronics exam

Alex Jones, a candidate from Gower College Swansea, was the best performer from a South Wales centre in last summer’s WJEC AS Electronics examination. In recognition of his achievement in gaining the highest marks, the Institute of Engineering and Technology awarded Alex a cheque for £200. The presentation was made by Steve Watts, Chair of the IET Wales South East Network.
