Star chef visits Tycoch kitchens

Students on their very first day of a Hospitality and Catering course had a huge surprise when they were treated to a practical master class from Slice chef – and Great British Menu star – Adam Bannister.

Adam, a former student at the Tycoch campus, prepared pan fried pigeon with noodles followed by tarte tatin with caramel ice cream.

He was recently selected as the chef to represent Wales in the finals of the popular BBC show.

Bright futures for Engineering Technology 'class of 2015'

Gower College Swansea’s Engineering Technology department (Tycoch) has celebrated its most successful Level 3 BTEC cohort to date.

From the graduating class of 2015, seven are heading to top universities around the UK including Swansea, Manchester, Lancashire and Bristol, to study degrees in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Aided Engineering, Architecture and Robotics.

A further 14 students have secured apprenticeships with established companies including Tata Steel, 3M, Quartzelec, Wall Colmonoy, Lyte Ladders and A.I.R Precision.

AS and A Level post result services

Students who have received their AS and A Level results today may now want to apply for access to their scripts or request a re-mark of one of their examination papers.

The Examinations Office has forms available and payments will need to be made when the forms are brought in.

For re-marks of a script, a cheque is required in advance. This cheque is held safe until the result of the re-mark is made. If your unit mark or grade increases then the awarding body makes no charge and your cheque is returned to you.

Gower College Swansea A / AS level results 2015

Gower College Swansea is celebrating an overall 98% pass rate at A Level - which is above the Welsh national average -with 1548 separate exam entries.

Of these passes, 81% were at the higher grades of A*-C and 57% were at grades A*-B, both increases on the results of 2014.

The overall pass rate at AS level was 90%, with 66% of those passes being grades A-C and 42% being grades A or B, again increasing on 2014’s results.

There were 3066 separate exam entries for AS in total.

Young entrepreneurs enjoy Enterprise Bootcamp

Over 30 budding entrepreneurs from local schools attended a Gower College Swansea Enterprise Bootcamp last week.

Pupils from Pentrehafod and Gowerton Comprehensives joined college staff and students to participate in an action-packed week of activities that encouraged them to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

Working in teams, they were set a challenge by Kate Hannington, Centre Manager at the 360 Watersports Centre - to come up with ideas that would increase the participation of local young people at the venue throughout the year.

Arrangements for A Level results day - 13 August

A Level results will be available to students from 8.30am on Thursday 13 August from room D4 at the Gorseinon campus.

Students must ensure that they have photo ID with them (i.e. student cards) in order to collect their results. A friend or member of the family may collect on a students’ behalf but they will need to have written authorisation in the form of a letter (naming them and signed by the candidate) and they need to bring their own photo ID.

Results uncollected by 3.30pm will be sent to the candidates’ home addresses.

'Collider' exhibition 7 - 29 August

‘Collider’ is an exhibition following Gower College Swansea’s successful Artists in Residence programme 2015.

On show is the work of the selected artists who participated in this year’s Artists in Residency programme – Jason & Becky and Gareth Southwell.

In addition, there is a showcase of material from Gower College Swansea students from the Saturday Art School initiative and various art and design courses, plus work undertaken by the artists and local NEETs (young people ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’).

“I’m living proof that it’s never too late."

Jodie Croxall, from Swiss Valley in Llanelli, celebrated achievement this week as she received her PhD in Social Policy from Swansea University.

Jodie, aged 39, received her award at the Summer Degree and Award Congregation for the College of Human and Health Sciences at the City and County of Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall, cheered on by her proud parents Allan and Tina, husband Neil and son Adam.

Scholarship for Access student Felix

Access to Law student Felix Green is celebrating after receiving both a conditional offer to study Law at Swansea University and a £1,500 Incentive Scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.

A former Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr pupil, Felix was awarded the scholarship as he intends to study his Law degree through the medium of Welsh.
