Scholarship students 2017/2018

Four Gower College Swansea students have been awarded scholarships for this academic year.

Receipt of a scholarship will ensure that these students receive financial and holistic support from the College as they balance studying with sporting commitments.

The College’s sports scholarship programme assists students who demonstrate exceptional ability in one of its academy sports – rugby, football, netball and cricket

This year’s scholarship students are:

  • Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science student Alex Callender, awarded for her progress in netball and rugby
  • A Level student Gregory Thomas, awarded for his progress in cricket
  • A Level student Kelsey Powell, awarded for her progress in cricket and rugby
  • Level 2 Sport student Jacob Lewis, awarded for his progress in football

“Our sports scholars will act as role models to their peer group and support the academy coaches to help deliver a high class sports programme,” says Curriculum Leader Marc O’Kelly. “Previous beneficiaries of our scholarship programme include Leigh Halfpenny, Keelan Giles and Jazz Carlin.”

A further 19 Gower College Swansea students have been selected to receive a sports bursary this year. The sports bursary programme provides funding support for competition, training and lifestyle expenses, free access to the College’s gym facilities and a mentoring service.
