Ceramics and Firing

Course Overview

This course will encourage you to explore and experiment with a range of ceramic construction techniques, surface decoration and kiln firing. If you are interested in gaining a new skill, experimenting with ceramic materials, or building on previous knowledge this Level 1 course will offer you the opportunity to explore the traditional craft of pottery as well as contemporary ceramics.

The emphasis on this course is based on traditional ceramic techniques - you will learn the techniques of hand building and slip casting. The course also explores traditional and contemporary decorating, glazing and firing processes. Demonstrations and individual tutorials will be given throughout the course encouraging you to build on your skills and develop your own approach towards the craft of pottery.

Course Delivery

This course is classroom based, for three hours a week and is subject to continuous assessment.

There is a studio fee of £20 which covers the cost of the materials you will use - clay, glaze materials and firing.
