Course Overview
The course follows the City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma which is designed to prepare students for a career in the motor vehicle service and repair industry.
This Level 2 qualification is designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements. It also provides the knowledge requirements for its related VCQ and forms the knowledge component of the IMI Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship framework (for Light Vehicle).

Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment
Supporting for Job Roles in the Automotive Work Environment
Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment

Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance
Light Vehicle Engine Units and Components
Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components
Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components
Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Components

Entry Requirements
Applicants will be enrolled on the associated apprenticeship framework or have access to regular industry based work experience in the associated sector.
Where necessary applicants may be required to undertake an aptitude test prior to entry.
Course Delivery
The course is delivered through practical demonstrations which are supported with realistic working tasks, where the emphasis is on you demonstrating the required skills. Underpinning knowledge for each unit is given via classroom based mode of delivery, where you are encouraged to participate in a range of learner centered activities.
Learners are assessed in a variety of ways including practical activities, multi-choice online examinations and participation in portfolio and assignment work.
Progression Opportunities
Successful learners who are also following an apprenticeship programme or secured the necessary work experience may have the opportunity to progress on to the VRQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
