Course Overview
This EAL unit covers the skills and knowledge needed to prove the competences required for basic heavy plate work (above 3 mm).
In producing the plate work components, you will be expected to use appropriate tools and equipment to mark out the material for a range of features to be produced and then to use hand tools, portable power tools and simple machines to produce a variety of shapes, profiles and forms.
It will give you the opportunity to produce simple plate work assemblies, using mechanical fastening devices and tack welding. It will also give you the understanding to use cutting, forming and assembly processes.

This EAL assessment route covers the skills and knowledge needed to prove the competences required that will prepare the learner for entry into the engineering or manufacturing sectors, creating a progression between education and employment. It will provide a basis for the development of additional skills and occupational competences in the working environment.
