This course will introduce you to using a sewing machine and enable you to develop sewing skills to create a summer shift dress.
All learners will produce the same style dress but adapt the design to their individual taste. Using a dressmaking pattern, learners will gain an understanding of pattern markings and information, cutting out a garment and the most appropriate seams and finishes to use to when constructing a garment.
The course will take place in our Fashion and Textiles Centre which houses pattern cutting tables, industrial and domestic sewing machines and a full range of professional garment production equipment.
A basic skill level of sewing would be an advantage but not essential.
Learners document their product evidence in a booklet for assessment. The course runs over a week and is taught in the fashion studio. The classes start at 10am and finish as 3pm Monday to Friday.
Learners could progress to other part time courses in the Autumn term or consider full time courses at the Llwyn y Bryn Campus i.e. Level 3 Art and Design, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.
Resources and equipment will be provided however learners will need to purchase material of their own choosing for their shift dress.
