Modern Studio Practice

Course Overview

The aim of this course is to allow learners to experience a wide range of music studio resources and techniques: sound recording, MIDI sequencing, sampling, and synthesis.

Classes will offer a workshop-based approach where learners will be encouraged to develop their own music compositions, and hopefully by the end they will have finished tracks to take away.

he course incorporates two Agored Level 1 Units: Music Sequencing - An Introduction (BRO301) and Sound and Music Recording Technology Skills (CAB642). It takes place on the Llwyn y Bryn campus in the newly-upgraded Mac-based computer suite and the newly rebuilt recording studio.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. Basic computer literacy is assumed. Some level of music performance ability is also assumed (e.g. guitar, vocals, keyboard, drums, etc.)

Course Delivery

Taking place for three hours per week, this course is a mixture of classroom delivery (i.e. short lectures on key topics) and practical work in either the computer lab or recording studio. The Agored elements are continuously assessed.
