Overview

This qualification develops the skills required by operatives to work in accordance with recycling industry requirements for collection, reception and segregation, processing and WEEE activities. 

Learners can choose which route is best suited to their current job role, so they are competent to work onsite.

Key information

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however learners will need to be employed in a suitable position as it is assessed ‘on-the-job’.

An assessor will visit the learner’s workplace to observe their work ‘on-the-job’ every four to six weeks. Visits will take place on a one-to-one basis to suit the needs of the learner and employers. Assessors will set tasks, provide support and guide you through the qualification.

Mandatory units

  • Promote sustainability and environmental good practice in the recycling industry
  • Develop relationships with colleagues and others
  • Comply with health and safety processes and procedures in the workplace
  • Encourage recycling services through promotion
  • Develop personal performance

Optional units

Learners can choose either the general route or one of the four professional pathways:

  • Collection
  • Reception and segregation
  • Processing
  • WEEE

If learners choose a specific pathway, the title of the pathway group will appear in their final certificate. 

Sustainable Recycling Activities Level 3 (CIWM, Wamitab) - Diploma

As learners progress through the qualification, they will build an e-portfolio of the naturally occurring evidence of the practical activity undertaken in the workplace to demonstrate knowledge and competency. A range of assessment methods will be used, including:

  • Questions and answers
  • Observations
  • Witness testimonies
  • Workplace evidence
  • Case studies
  • Workbooks
  • Professional discussion
