Apprenticeship Week Wales open evening and information sessions

Apprenticeship Week Wales is a week-long celebration dedicated to raising awareness and showcasing why apprenticeships are a genius decision to individuals, employers, and the future workforce.

This year, AW Wales runs from Monday 5 - Sunday 11 February, and Gower College Swansea are offering an array of activities to demystify and celebrate apprenticeships:

  • On Monday 5 February, the College will be holding its annual Apprenticeship Awards. The ceremony will celebrate apprentices, tutors, and delivery partners from all subject areas!
  • On Wednesday 7 February, the College is hosting an Apprenticeship Open Evening for people of all ages to find out more about apprenticeships, where our subject experts and external employers will be present.
  • Finally, from Monday 5 - Friday 9 February, Apprenticeship Information Sessions will be held on Teams, details of which can be found below!

Monday 5 February

10.00am – 11.00am: Flooring Futures: Navigating Apprenticeships - Your Questions Answered!
Join us for an informative and interactive session that aims to demystify floor covering apprenticeships and provide you with the knowledge and confidence to step into a promising career. Don't miss this chance to have your questions answered by experts in the field!

1.00pm – 1.30pm: Design your future: Exploring apprenticeships in Fashion and Textiles
Join this webinar to explore a world of career possibilities in Fashion and Textiles, where we’ll unveil our exciting apprenticeship opportunities to allow you to kickstart your journey into the creative realm of fashion through our qualifications and guidance.

2.00pm – 2.30pm: Investing in talent: The power of Facilities Management apprenticeships
A session covering Facilities Management apprenticeships, learners and employers will learn the benefits of the qualification and what’s in it for them.

Tuesday 6 February

1.30pm – 2.00pm: Welsh language excellence: Empowering staff through a translation practice apprenticeship 
This session will provide an introduction to Gower College Swansea’s translation apprenticeship, which is an opportunity to develop the skills to become a qualified translator. This is a desirable role which enables organisations to train current or new staff to translate documents, which is often a requirement of the Welsh Language Standards.

Wednesday 7 February

10.00am – 10.30am: Your path to career success: Apprenticeships demystified 
Apprenticeships provide a cost-effective solution to an organisation's training and recruitment strategy, whilst allowing individuals to upskill and progress their career. This session will debunk common myths surrounding apprenticeships, including funding, age restrictions and commencement points.

10.30am – 11.30am: Fuelling the future: Gas Engineering apprenticeships Q&A
A drop-in session designed for those considering an apprenticeship to embark on a career in the gas engineering sector. Our three-year route includes all aspects of central heating installation and maintenance.

Thursday 8 February

11.00am – 11.30am: Designing the future: User Centred Design apprenticeships

1.00pm – 1.30pm: Connecting lives, building futures: Gower College Swansea’s Community Development apprenticeship
This session will provide an overview of our community development Level 3 qualification, which is designed to provide community development practitioners with the opportunity to develop their understanding of the background and need for community development.

2.00pm – 2.30pm: Balancing the books: A guide to business introduction and basic bookkeeping
An accountancy-based session, which will cover the introduction to businesses as well as basic bookkeeping, from double entry to trial balance which is the foundation of accounting.

2.00pm – 2.30pm: Navigating the Digital landscape: Unveiling two pathways to boost business through advanced digital skills
Join us for a transformative webinar to explore the critical role of the digital user and digital application support apprenticeship pathways in addressing the growing digital skills gap in Wales, providing a tailored route for individuals to enhance their digital capabilities on-the-job. You will also discover how the pathways align with the 2021 Digital Strategy for Wales, empowering organisations to innovate, grow, and create a workforce ready to excel in the evolving digital landscape.

4.00pm – 4.30pm: Future-proof your school: Funded Teaching Assistant apprenticeships  
Our teaching assistant apprenticeships are designed to empower your school with dedicated and talented staff. Join this webinar to learn more about this fully-funded opportunity, that can be a source of long-term investment for your school and allow you to mould committed individuals into skilled professionals.

Friday 9 February

2.00pm – 2.30pm: Unlocking your potential: A guide through our Information, Advice and Guidance development pathways
Working in a role that involves providing advice and guidance to others? Our webinar will allow you to pick up some key takeaways for information, advice and guidance, and learn more about the pathways available.
