Gower College Swansea launches three new HE courses

Gower College Swansea launches three new HE courses Gower College Swansea takes pride in announcing the successful launch of three brand new higher education courses for 2024: a Foundation Degree in Esports, BA (Hons) in Sport Coaching and Performance and BA (Hons) in Education, Mental Health and ALN.

The event saw prospective students from across South Wales visit Gower College Swansea’s dedicated University Centre to meet and chat with faculty members and current students. They also had an opportunity to get to know our university partners from Swansea University, University of South Wales, and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

“Our launch event marks a significant milestone in the journey of higher education at Gower College Swansea, and our longstanding commitment to providing high quality, accessible and employability focused higher education courses for our learners,” says Principal Kelly Fountain.

“Our links with leading Welsh universities represent more than just academic partnership - they are also a testament to our shared vision of providing accessible and inclusive education that unlocks the full potential of every individual.”

Guests at the launch event were given the opportunity to attend talks from industry leading guest speakers including John Jackson, CEO of Esports Wales, and Alistair McNaught, who has a broad range of experience across further education, adult learning and higher education.

“One of the things I loved about the course content was that it helps to build teaching approaches that are really well founded in terms of the day-to-day practice and also background research,” says Alistair of the new BA (Hons) Education, Mental Health and ALN.

The BA (Hons) in Sport Coaching and Performance is designed to cultivate a deep understanding of athletic development and strategic coaching techniques.

And for those who are passionate about gaming, the Foundation Degree in Esports is unique as it combines theory, competitive play and psychology with work based individual projects and event planning.

"This is a great step forward for Esports in Wales,” says John Jackson. “The GCS Owls have already started to make a name for themselves around the world and this foundation degree will allow the College to build on this success and keep developing talent here in Wales."

"We are in a truly exceptional position to have the knowledge and resources available to launch this foundation course at such a key time while Esports is a fast-growing industry, and to be the first to deliver a course of this kind in Wales is a true testament to our efforts" adds lecturer Kiran Jones.

Gower College Swansea is extremely grateful to all attendees and partners for their invaluable support in making this event a memorable and impactful experience. We look forward to welcoming future students to our University Centre and continuing to foster a culture of learning, growth, and success.
