Gold award for Hannah's lagoon design

Hannah Davies, a second year A Level Design & Technology student from the Gorseinon campus of Gower College Swansea, has received the British Science Association’s prestigious Gold Crest Award.

The award was given to Hannah for her work as a designer and illustrator on the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon Engineering project where her main task was to design an additional feature enabling the production of renewable energy.

"The final design proposed the use of floating photovoltaic technology and oscillating water columns around the outside of the lagoon, to be utilised to provide power to the visitors centre and other buildings," explains lecturer Peter Thomas. "This is a fantastic achievement for Hannah and we are all very proud of her."

The project was sponsored by the Welsh Government.
