Freshers’ Fayres welcome new students to College
New students got a chance to find out more about campus life when they attended the Gower College Swansea Freshers’ Fayres at Gorseinon and Tycoch.

Staff at the Broadway Hair, Beauty and Holistic Centre recently enjoyed a Welsh Celebration Day as part of inset week.
Kicking off the day with a lot of laughter were comedians Ignacio Lopez and Daniel Glyn. They were followed by a session on Welsh place names with Bethan Mair, and a Welsh-themed treasure hunt. For the latter, staff used a dictionary app to search for the English versions of keywords used in a salon – a little task they can now adapt for their students.

This year’s A2 class scooped amazing A Level results with an impressive 64% achieving A* or A grades.
Over 90% of these students have been accepted by Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.
Our AS Level students had a lot to celebrate too, with ten students achieving either four or three A grades.
We would like to say a big well done to all of our students and wish each and every one of them success in their forthcoming studies.

After an incredible set of A Level results, over 1,000 Gower College Swansea students are set to progress to university this September.
Almost 200 of these students are heading to some of the best universities in the UK - including Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Imperial College London, Bristol, Exeter and the London School of Economics.

GCSE results will be available for collection from 9am on Thursday 23 August 2018 (main reception area at Tycoch and the Exams office at Gorseinon)
All students must have photographic identification with them (a student card is ideal or, if you don’t have your student card, a driving licence or passport will be acceptable) when they collect their results from the college.

Students at Gower College Swansea are celebrating an overall A Level pass rate of 98%, with 1827 separate exam entries.
Of these passes, 83% were at the higher grades of A*- C, 58% were at grades A*- B and 28% were at grades A* - A – all strong percentage increases on our excellent 2017 results.
The overall pass rate at AS Level was 93%, with 69% of those passes being grades A - C and 48% being grades A - B – again, all strong percentage increases on 2017 results.
There were 2853 separate exam entries for AS.

Gower College Swansea has achieved a Corporate Health Standard Bronze Award for its dedication to providing health and wellbeing initiatives for its staff.
The Corporate Health Standard is part of the Healthy Working Wales programme and is the national mark of quality for health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Over the last academic year, there has been a range of staff-centred events such as a long service awards ceremony for those who have worked at the College for more than 20 years, and a celebration party to acknowledge a positive Estyn inspection.
Local leader and college shortlisted for Wales’ national leadership awards
Principal and Chief Executive Mark Jones from Gower College Swansea has been named a finalist in this year’s Leading Wales Awards.
The 2018 Leading Wales Awards – in association with the Institute of Leadership and Management – have announced this year’s shortlist and are holding their judging interviews on Thursday 12 July.
Mark has been nominated in the Leadership in the Public Sector category for his role as Principal and Chief Executive at Gower College Swansea – one of Wales’ largest further education colleges – and is one of only four finalists in the category.

One of our International students took third prize at the recent Urdd Eisteddfod 2018 (regional selection category).
Maggie, who is originally from China, designed and produced a lino cut print based on the theme of urban environment.
Her art teachers thought her print was one of the most original designs from the group of first year fine art students.
Well done Maggie, a fantastic result for your first year in Wales!
