Overview

The Digital Infrastructure Engineer Level 4 qualification equips learners with the advanced skills and knowledge to manage and support digital systems that connect physical and virtual environments.

Learners gain expertise in network principles, IT hardware, information governance and professional practice.

The qualification is designed to meet the needs of modern digital infrastructure roles and is recognised by employers across Wales. 

Key information

This course is ideal for individuals currently working in or aspiring to work in roles such as IT Technical Support, Network Planner or Infrastructure Engineer.

It is suitable for learners aged 16 and above who can gather evidence within a workplace setting. The qualification supports both new entrants and existing staff seeking to upskill. 

Learners will be assigned a dedicated Tutor/Assessor who will collaborate with both the learner and employer to tailor the programme to individual roles and prior experience.

Delivery is primarily remote via Microsoft Teams, with workplace visits and face-to-face sessions available if required. Training schedules are flexible and agreed upon to minimise disruption to the organisation.

Optional units

Learners must complete mandatory units and select from a range of optional units to achieve the required credits.

  • Principles of Data Management Infrastructure
  • Testing IT and Telecoms Systems
  • IT System Operation
  • Remote Support for IT Products and Services
  • Improving Existing Software

Assessment

Assessment is portfolio-based, with learners compiling evidence such as documents, screenshots and project work. Regular one to one meetings with Tutors/Assessors ensure progress is tracked and support is provided.

Smart Assessor is used to manage assessments and facilitate communication between learner, tutor and employer.

Additional information

The apprenticeship also includes Essential Skills qualifications in communication and application of number, which upskills learners with GCSE equivalents to English and Maths if they have not already achieved grades A-C.
