Overview

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and human behaviour. Throughout the course, you will delve into various psychological theories, concepts, and practical research methods. By studying real-life scenarios and engaging in interactive hands-on activities, you will develop a deep understanding of the factors that shape human behaviour and the impact they have on individuals and society. 

Course Objectives:  

  • Develop knowledge of how psychological approaches explain behaviour  
  • Understand the scientific process of research from concept to completion 
  • Explore how behaviours and lifestyle choices affect health and wellbeing, such as alcohol misuse, smoking, and gambling 
  • Gain insights into different explanations for criminality and analyse possible treatments. 

Course Outcomes:  

  • Apply your knowledge to real life scenarios, including aggression, advertising and gender 
  • Plan, prepare, and complete your own research study  
  • Explain why individuals engage in behaviours that impact on health and criminal behaviours and potential solutions. 

Key information

  • Seven GCSEs grade C or above, including Mathematics, English Language, and Science
  • A keen interest in human behaviour, strong analytical skills, and good written and verbal communication abilities are essential 
  • No prior knowledge of psychology is required, as this course will provide you with a solid foundation in the subject.

Year 1: 

Psychological Approaches and Applications – Externally Assessed Exam 

Conducting Psychological Research - Three Internally Assessed Assignments 

Grading Criteria:  

  • Exam: 50%  
  • Assignments: 50%  

Year 2:  

Health Psychology – Externally Assessed Exam 

Criminal and Forensic Psychology - Three Internally Assessed Assignments
