Using Welsh in the College

It is the aim of the College to promote a Welsh dimension, nurture a Welsh ethos and support education and culture through the medium of Welsh.

We are trying to make the Welsh language a natural part of the College, as it is in some areas of the city.

The Welsh Language Standards ensure that Welsh is treated as equal to English and that there are opportunities for you to use your Welsh whilst studying and using the College services.

We work with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol to create training and study opportunities in Welsh and to inpire learners, students and apprentices to use the Welsh skills they have.

We are grateful to the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol for the investment and support.

Advantages of studying in Welsh

  • Develop a greater understanding of the subject as, to some extent, you can study it in two languages
  • Maintain language skills already developed in school
  • Develop cognitive skills
  • Develop employability skills as bilingual people are needed in all kinds of jobs
  • Gives a good foundation to any career
  • Opportunity to meet new people
  • Provide a bilingual service as a mark of quality
  • Scholarships for some courses at university
