Overview

Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills -Multi Skills provides a broad introduction to brickwork, carpentry, painting and decorating and plastering trades. 

It has been developed for learners who are not sure of what trade they want a career in.  

All learners will complete different credit based practical projects across brickwork, carpentry, painting and decorating and plastering trades to complete the year.  

There are two theory units on Health and Safety and the Building Environment.  

Key information

No formal entry requirements. You must have a desire to work in the construction industry. GCSEs, equivalent qualifications and personal merit will be discussed at interview. An industry assessment will be undertaken to determine the appropriate level of course.

You will be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you will continue your studies and coursework during your own time.

The course is delivered by both practical sessions with excellent workshop facilities and theory lessons to underpin the knowledge learnt in the practical sessions. You will be assessed via practical assignments, written assignments and multiple choice unit end tests.

Elements of this course can be delivered through the medium of Welsh.

Assessment: 

  • One mandatory theory unit 
  • Learners must achieve a minimum of 37 credits. 

This qualification will enable and/or prepare you to progress in your chosen trade as a trainee or apprentice or onto further study.

Foundation in Construction (Brickwork and Plastering) 

All students are required to supply the necessary equipment to enable them to commence / complete classroom and workshop activities. These include: stationery, overalls, boots, safety glasses.
