Frantic Assembly workshop explores physical theatre

Updated 20/10/2016

A Level students at Gorseinon have spent two days in intensive performing arts workshops with Amelia Cardwell, a Learn and Train Practitioner with the renowned Frantic Assembly theatre company.

Students from the A Level Dance, A Level Drama and Theatre Studies and BTEC Performing Arts courses participated in a series of demanding workshops that focused on lifts, contact work and physical theatre.

During the three separate sessions - which saw Amelia working with over 70 students - a sequence of movements were devised and developed, with other work being based on popular lifts from the award-winning stage production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

"We were delighted to welcome Amelia to the college,” says drama lecturer Sam Timmins. “Frantic's workshops always really invigorate our students and inspire them to think outside the box in terms of acting and movement. They are now approaching the devising and choreography process with a newfound confidence and an abundance of creative ideas!"

"We would love to welcome Frantic Assembly back to the college in the future and will continue to actively encourage students to participate in any opportunities to collaborate with Frantic - we are very proud of our students, both past and present, who have auditioned and performed in Frantic's Ignition Project for young male dancers.”
