Overview

Leadership and Management allows learners to develop the skills and knowledge to become managers and leaders, or to further themselves into middle or senior management roles. Our programmes are accredited by ILM and CMI, and will introduce key leadership and management practices with the aim of supporting learners in applying the skills developed into their working practice.

At Level 4, the apprenticeship is suitable for established managers, head of functions or area managers. The programme is delivered as a stand-alone qualification that can be fully-funded, and can be used to upskill new or existing staff.

Key information

To be eligible for apprenticeship funding, the apprentice must be employed for more than 16 hours per week and based in Wales.

Learners will be allocated a dedicated tutor/assessor, who will work closely with both learners and employer to ensure the level and units selected are suited to their individual roles and organisational priorities. The delivery can be remote, or the tutor/assessor can visit the learner every 4-6 weeks at a location convenient for both learner and assessor.

Learners will be expected to attend seminars or workshops, which will focus on the knowledge element of the qualification and support in developing understanding and skills. The learners will also be assigned project work set to their elected units, and create a project portfolio to demonstrate the application of their new skills.

The Level 4 programme is available as either a certificate or diploma in principles of leadership and management, or as an NVQ diploma in management. The certificate is a shorter qualification, and consists of two mandatory units focusing on an understanding of the management role and how to lead complex activities. The diploma consists of four mandatory units with a focus on change management and relationship building.

Leadership and Management Level 5 - Apprenticeship

To successfully complete the qualification, learners will undertake a project relevant to their individual role and learning environment. They will acquire the knowledge, tools and techniques associated with each unit that they will then implement in their current work environment.

The project, work assigned and evidence gathered will be reviewed during the regular group and 1-2-1 meetings with tutors/assessors and used for assessment purposes. Gower College Swansea utilises Smart Assessor, which is an online apprenticeship management tool enabling provider, learner and employer to effectively track learner progress.
