Students meet iconic artist on visit to Swansea

Staff and students from Gower College Swansea jumped at the chance to meet with iconic pop artist Sir Peter Blake when he visited Swansea at the weekend.

The first stop was the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery for a celebration of Blake’s illustrations for Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood and the launch of an ‘open exhibition’ for Swansea residents (which included work by College lecturer Phil Jacobs).

Christmas comes to Llwyn y Bryn!

Level 2 Art and Design students at Llwyn y Bryn have been busy designing and painting festive penguins in readiness for the 2017 Waterfront Winterland.

The students were commissioned by the City and County of Swansea and their work will go on proud display at the Swansea ice rink from 17 November

This year’s sponsors include Heart Radio’s Jagger and Woody, the Swansea Grand Theatre, Admiral Insurance and the College’s very own superhero Bryn.

On show is the work of the selected artists who participated in this year’s Artists in Residency programme – Jason & Becky and Gareth Southwell.

In addition, there is a showcase of material from Gower College Swansea students from the Saturday Art School initiative and various art and design courses, plus work undertaken by the artists and local NEETs (young people ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’).
