This course will provide you with in depth knowledge, understanding and skills relating to the development and care of individuals throughout the life span. You will develop understanding of influences on human growth, development, behaviour and well-being. 

You will also gain a detailed understanding of the social, physical, emotional, and cultural needs of people who use care and support services and recognise that everyone has a unique blend of abilities and needs. 

You will gain understanding of how service provision in Wales supports the development and well-being of individuals, so they can make informed decisions now and in later life. 

Current issues included: 

  • Promoting health and well-being 
  • Supporting health, well-being and resilience 
  • Theoretical perspectives of children and young people’s development 
  • Supporting the development, health, well-being and resilience of children and young people 
  • Theoretical perspectives of adult behaviour 
  • Supporting adults to maintain health well-being and resilience.

Key information

  • A minimum of seven GCSEs at grades A*-C, including Mathematics, English Language, and Science.

Full-time over two years with a fast track option* 

Assessment Year 1 (AS Level): 

  • Non-examination assessment(NEA) – externally set, internally marked assignment
  • External examination. 

Assessment Year 2 (A Level): 

  • Non-examination assessment(NEA) – externally set, internally marked  
  • External examination. 

*Fast Track option: Studying both AS and A2 in one academic 

Grading Criteria: 

  • Exams: 50% 
  • Assignments: 50% 

Staying with the college, you could progress to the Foundation Degree in Education Learning and Development or Childhood Development Practice

Further study at university in nursing, midwifery, social work, paramedic science, medical science, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, teaching or psychology, or find employment in care work.
