Key information

Entry by interview and audition.

This course is designed for students aged 18+ who have completed a three A Level programme, which includes drama / dance / music or an Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. However, candidates are also considered based on their skill set and experience at audition.

The course is mainly practical with logbooks attached.

You will work on a showcase that presents your audition material to an invited audience (unit one) and then go into more depth on a certain musical theatre practitioner or style for unit two. Unit 3 three is a public performance.

A large proportion of the work undertaken is of a practical nature and is assessed continuously. There are no examinations on this course.

The course is full-time and students are required to be available for up to 18 hours contact time per week. It is very likely that you will be able to have a regular day off every week to work which many students use to fund their auditions. However, you must be available full-time when we are rehearsing our final production.

Students accepted on this course should be aiming to apply to specialist colleges or university, or looking to enhance their current skillset so they may go directly into the professional industry. The course is very much like the Foundation courses that conservatoires offer but without the hefty price tag.

Past graduates of this Level 4 Musical Theatre course have progressed onto a number of nationally acclaimed colleges including the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, GSA Conservatoire, The Arden School of Theatre, Emil Dale Academy, Trinity Laban, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, Bird College, and the Leeds Conservatoire, as well as various prestigious universities that specialise in Musical Theatre Performance.

Past Level 4 performances have included “The Little Shop of Horrors”, a cabaret revue called “The West End After Dark”, “I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change” and an original musical titled “Reign”. Most of our shows are performed at The Grand Theatre Swansea.
