The UAL (University of the Arts London) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts is equivalent to 3 A Levels in the UCAS points system.  

This two year course will provide you with a breadth of study across the disciplines of acting, dance and singing covering a range of skills such as: 

  • Acting technique 
  • Scripted performance  
  • Musical Theatre Performance  
  • Theatre for Children 
  • Classical Theatre  
  • Singing technique  
  • Ensemble singing  
  • Contemporary Movement 
  • Jazz 
  • Ballet.

Although the emphasis is on practical and performance work you will need to complete written assignments and develop your skills through evaluative logbooks and rehearsal reflections. You will learn to evaluate and comment critically on both professional practice and research as well as your own creative journey. 

Your learning is assessed by projects. You will complete these termly - the projects will vary and you could be assessed through, a real-life production scenario, journals, presentations, essays and performances. 

Key information

  • 5 GCSE’s at grade C and above (Merit at UAL Level 2 Diploma) 
  • To include GCSE English Language grade C  
  • A keen interest in performing arts 
  • Performance experience preferred. 

The Level 3 Performing Arts course is based within the Arts Block at Gorseinon campus. It’s a full-time course focused around taught lessons and project work. As part of the Level 3 timetable, you will also study the Level 3 Welsh Baccalaureate. 

Our students have progressed onto a variety of prestigious universities and specialist colleges. Offers include places at Mountview, Arts Ed, RADA, LAMDA, Laine Theatre Arts, East 15, LIPA, RWCMD, Bird College, Urdang, GSA, The Emil Dale Academy and London Studio Centre. 

University offers include: University of Chichester, Trinity St David - Cardiff, Arden School of Acting - Manchester University, University of Cumbria, University of Gloucestershire, Blackpool and Fylde College, University of South Wales, Birmingham City University, University of Portsmouth, St Mary’s University Twickenham and Cardiff Metropolitan University. 

Additionally, students have also gained a place on our Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance taking a pathway in either acting or musical theatre.  

Course Costs:

Due to the nature of the course, we have a course cost of £150 for the year, per year of study. The course costs enable us to book theatre trips, provide workshop opportunities and invite in industry professional guest speakers.  

Theatre Visits:

During the course of the year you will have opportunities to attend local productions and notable performances in London and Stratford.  Trips organised are dependent on performances available during the year.   


Workshops arranged will relate specifically to Level 3 course and vary depending on the focus of your term. 


Wednesday afternoons provide students with opportunities in addition to your full timetable to work with a range of professional practitioners. Previous sessions have included: Acting for TV and Film, Voice for Radio, Musical Theatre Dance Rep, 1 to 1 Audition Support and bilingual Welsh performance project.
