Overview

The Level 2 course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in engineering principles and practical skills. Students will gain hands on experience and theoretical knowledge in areas such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and manufacturing processes. 

You can study this course full-time over one year or through a two-year apprenticeship. The apprenticeship pathway includes the EAL Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Technologies, which is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ) delivered as part of the apprenticeship framework.

This course has been designed to give you knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: 

  • Welding
  • Fabrication
  • Lathe work and turning
  • Milling
  • Drilling
  • Pneumatics
  • Engineering drawing
  • CAD
  • Testing and inspection
  • Non destructive testing.

It includes a variety of practical units giving you an opportunity to find what areas of engineering suit you best.

Key information

Four GCSEs at grade D plus a C in either English Language or Maths.

Apprentices must secure their own full-time employment in a relevant sector before applying for the course.

Learners are required to attend an interview.

The course has been designed with a wide range of units, so that learners can focus on their chosen career or area of interest. The qualification structure is designed to give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes.

Progression to the Level 3 full-time programme or the engineering apprenticeship route and potentially HNC/HND.
