Telephone: 01792 284400 Email: training@gcs.ac.uk
Overview
The OFTEC Oil Training and Assessment course is designed for experienced heating engineers and new entrants looking to gain industry recognised OFTEC qualifications.
It covers key aspects of domestic and light commercial oil systems, including storage, supply, commissioning, servicing and installation. Learners will develop the skills and knowledge required to work safely and competently on oil-fired systems, in line with OFTEC standards and building regulations.
The course includes both training and assessment elements and is suitable for those seeking initial qualification, as well as experienced engineers needing reassessment to maintain OFTEC registration.
Key information
Candidates should have relevant plumbing or heating experience.
For the initial assessment, candidates should hold appropriate prerequisite qualifications or demonstrate competence.
Reassessment is suitable for existing OFTEC qualified engineers requiring renewal.
This course is delivered through classroom-based theory sessions and practical training in the workshop, followed by formal assessments.
The following OFTEC units are covered:
- OFT10-101: Domestic/light commercial pressure jet commissioning/service
- OFT10-105E: Oil firing system installation.
- OFT10-600a: Oil storage and supply systems.
Assessment methods include multiple-choice question papers, practical observed assessments and written tasks.
The course will take four days to complete for initial assessment, or two days for reassessment.
Successful completion of this course allows heating engineers to become or remain OFTEC registered, enabling them to self-certify oil installations and carry out commissioning and servicing work in line with industry regulations.
Progression opportunities include further OFTEC units (such as tank installation or vaporising burner systems), expanding into renewable heating technologies, or developing specialist expertise within the heating sector.
Course fees apply, please contact the College for details.
Learners must bring suitable ID and evidence of qualifications where applicable.
All assessments are conducted in accordance with OFTEC requirements.
