Overview

The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning is designed for individuals aiming to work as teaching assistants or support staff in educational settings.

This comprehensive course equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to support teachers and enhance students' learning experiences.

The curriculum covers key areas such as behaviour management, safeguarding, and supporting inclusive education. Learners will explore topics like communication, promoting positive relationships, and the role of a teaching assistant in both classroom and one-on-one settings. 

Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on experience, students will develop a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students and how to support their academic, social, and emotional development. This qualification is ideal for those wishing to pursue a rewarding career in educational support roles, making a positive impact on students’ learning journeys.

This course is available both as a part-time option and as an apprenticeship.

Key information

Learners must attend an interview with the Childcare Team and course offers will be subject to a short literacy screening test.

Apprenticeship route only:

Apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 16 hours per week in a suitable school or college.

If you do not currently hold an A-C grade GCSE qualification in English and Maths then you will be required to complete essential skills qualifications as part of their apprenticeship framework.

The Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning offers an immersive and comprehensive learning experience that is designed to equip you with advanced skills and knowledge in educational support. 

Our course delivery is carefully structured to ensure a dynamic and enriching journey, balancing theoretical insights with practical application.
The course is delivered by experienced lecturers through face to face delivery, one evening a week, at our Tycoch campus.

The course is assessed through a number of assignment tasks. Learners are also assessed through observation of practice by one of our experienced assessors. 

Upon completing the Level 3 Diploma, you'll find yourself equipped with advanced skills and specialised knowledge that opens up a wide range of progression opportunities within the field of education and beyond. These include:

  • Employment as a Specialist Support Practitioner
  • ALN co-ordinator roles
  • Teacher Training and Professional development.

No matter which path you choose, the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools provides you with the advanced skills and knowledge needed to make a meaningful impact in education.

Students are allocated an assessor who will support you throughout your time on the course.

Part-time route:
Students are required to find a suitable placement to complete your voluntary placement hours. You are required to complete a total of 300 hours placement over the course of the academic year. A DBS check will be required for your placement, and this can be organised by the College at an additional cost. 

Apprenticeship route:
You will complete 6 weekly reviews with your assessor via your smart assessor e-portfolio. You will have access to a range of facilities and support services at the College to aid your learning experience. You will need to secure a school placement.
