Young women have historically tended to stay away from STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects during their school years. This can be down to many things, but one of them is the outdated stereotype that STEM careers are better suited to men.

And as a result, women can often be outnumbered in these industries.

Update for parents/guardians

This week, we were advised by Swansea Bay Health Board that the Regional Incident Management Team (IMT) considers the current risk level of coronavirus in Swansea Bay equivalent to the high rating on their framework.

Subsequently, the guidance from the IMT is that, although the College is not itself a high risk, all organisations – including schools – are being asked to take extra steps to help prevent the continuing spread of the virus in the wider community.

Art and Design student Flora Luckman has been commissioned by Gower College Swansea to create a bespoke piece of work that captures the ethos and atmosphere of the Llwyn y Bryn Campus.

Flora has recently completed the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Llwyn y Bryn and is now progressing to the University of Edinburgh to study Illustration.

Message for parents/guardians 

I hope that you and your family have enjoyed the summer break. 
 
As our students return to College we would like to make you aware of the arrangements that will be in place from the start of this autumn term and how we will continue to prioritise the health and safety of our students whilst they are at College. 
 
Firstly, it is our intention that the majority of teaching will be carried out on a face to face basis, although we will also be looking to provide enhanced support for those learners who are having to self-islolate at home.

Gower College Swansea has been officially recognised as a College of Sanctuary, the first FE College in Wales to receive such an accolade.

This honour was given to the College by City of Sanctuary UK, an organisation that is committed to building a culture of safety, opportunity and welcome, especially for those seeking sanctuary from war and persecution.

Gower College Swansea Sports Centre - Important Update

Gower College Swansea Sports Centre - important update

Due to the College’s guidelines of safe operations, the Sports Centre at our Tycoch Campus will only be open to members of the public between the following hours from 1 September 2021:

Monday – Friday: 6.30am-8.30am and 4.30pm-10pm

On Saturdays and Sundays, we will operate as normal.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the decision has been made in line with the most recent post-16 Welsh Government guidance relating to covid safety.

The decision will be reviewed on 31 October 2021.
