Overview

The Level 2 course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in engineering principles and practical skills. Students will gain hands on experience and theoretical knowledge in areas such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and manufacturing processes. 

This one year course has been designed to give you knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: 

  • Welding 
  • Fabrication 
  • Lathe work and turning 
  • Milling 
  • Drilling 
  • Pneumatics 
  • Engineering drawing 
  • CAD 
  • Testing and inspection 
  • Non destructive testing.

It includes a variety of practical units giving you an opportunity to find what areas of engineering suit you best.

Key information

  • Four GCSEs at grade D plus a C in either English Language or Maths.

The course, which is broadly equivalent to four GCSEs, has been designed with a wide range of units, so that learners can focus on their chosen career or area of interest. The qualification structure is designed to give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes.

Progression to the Level 3 full-time programme or the engineering apprenticeship route and potentially HNC/HND.
