Digital Technology students head to Big Bang UK

A group of Digital Technology students at Gower College Swansea have been selected by the Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW) to attend the Big Bang Fair UK.

Corey Nixon, Christopher Protheroe, Chantelle Simpson and Declan Wells will attend the event at the Birmingham NEC in March 2015, one of just 15 groups from around the UK to be invited.

“These students have worked incredibly hard to achieve some major successes,” says lecturer Steve Williams. “Earlier this year they won the ‘Best Working Model or Prototype’ category at the EESW competition held at the Celtic Manor and, as a result, were invited to the Senedd to present the winning project at the Science Education in Wales event.”

In addition, they worked towards – and achieved – a Gold Crest award and collaborated with Tong Fang Global to produce flat screen televisions under the SEIKI brand. The students were tasked with a brief to design, build and install a fully integrated reception system to feed signals to the new production lines and test bays. The system was successfully installed in February.

“This is an exceptional group of students and we are all delighted with this latest achievement,” adds Steve.
