English students head for Hay

Five A Level English students from Gower College Swansea have been offered the experience of a lifetime – to intern at the upcoming Hay Festival.

Ra-ees Richards, Lowri Thomas, Jordana Yip, Seren Jefferies and Kesia Holmes have all been selected to take part in the Beacons Project during the 2022 event.

During their time at the Festival, they will take part in creative writing workshops with writers and screenwriters, sit in on Hay lectures and even get the chance to interview some of the guest speakers.

“I’m so pleased and delighted for these students – what an amazing opportunity to take part in something so prestigious,” says Curriculum Leader Emma Smith. “Only 20 young people are offered this opportunity so it’s an incredible achievement and an experience I’m sure they will remember forever!”

The Beacons Project aims to encourage creativity and forge a sense of creative identity amongst young people in Wales.

It offers a unique opportunity for Welsh students to work with exceptional writers and journalists in a highly creative and stimulating environment during Hay Festival.
