Former student scoops National Theatre bursary

Former Gower College Swansea student Anna Jenkins has been awarded a prestigious bursary by the National Theatre.

The NT/Dingmans Stage Management Bursary is awarded every year to a newly graduated stage manager and recipients receive a paid placement at the National Theatre.

During her time at Gower College Swansea, Anna studied A Levels in Drama and Theatre Studies, Dance, English Literature/Language, as well as the Welsh Baccalaureate. She then enrolled on an intensive two-year BA (Hons) Theatre Production Arts course at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, specialising in stage management, and graduated recently with a first class honours degree from Middlesex University.

“I was very fortunate to win the bursary and am presently working as an assistant stage manager on the National Theatre’s Christmas production of Treasure Island,” says Anna. “Shortly after Christmas I will stage manage a show at the Gate Theatre in Notting Hill.”

It is hoped that Anna will find time in her busy schedule next year to return to Gower College Swansea to inspire the current cohort of students.

“I loved college,” she adds. “I loved all the subjects I studied but specifically dance and drama, as theatre was where I wanted my career to go. The support from all the lecturers and staff really helped and guided me on my way. I would never be doing what I am doing today if it wasn’t for all the support I received from college.”
