Gower College Swansea’s Esports team, GCS Owls, took centre stage at Bett 2025, not only claiming victory in the Rocket League tournament but also engaging with industry leaders and showcasing their passion for competitive gaming.
The tournament featured some of the best Esports talent from colleges across the UK, but GCS Owls proved they were in a league of their own. Their 3v3 Rocket League team delivered an outstanding performance in front of a packed live audience, battling it out against fierce competition - the York Vikings and Loughborough Lycans - to emerge victorious. As recognition for their achievement, the team was presented with a prestigious trophy and awarded gaming controllers.
Emyr, a Level 3 Esports student, said “It was an awesome experience! We fought hard as a team and it’s nice to see our training pay off. Playing in front of a live audience was an unforgettable experience and winning the tournament has given us a huge confidence boost. We’re excited for the future of Esports and the opportunities for us to succeed in the industry.”
Beyond the tournament, students had the opportunity to preview upcoming sessions on the latest innovations, technologies, and career opportunities within the ever-growing Esports industry. The British Esports Federation also led discussions on the expanding role of Esports in education, highlighting how schools and universities are integrating competitive gaming to engage students, develop transferable skills, and foster a sense of community.
Participants gained valuable insights into curriculum pathways, qualifications, and enrichment opportunities, learning how these trends can be implemented in educational settings to inspire the next generation of Esports talent. The event reinforced the idea that students can learn today to lead tomorrow, paving the way for an exciting future in the industry.
Esports lecturer, Kiran Jones, summed up the event perfectly, "Our Esports students will someday be leading the way in this fast-growing industry, and events like the Bett Show are invaluable in preparing them for that future. Seeing our Rocket League team triumph on such a big stage was incredible, and I couldn't be prouder of their hard work and dedication."
