Georgia pens prize-winning review

An A Level student from Gower College Swansea has taken first place at the Dylan Thomas Prize book review awards.

Georgia Fearn – who studies English Literature, English Language, Government and Politics and Sociology  at the Gorseinon campus as well as being on the HE+ programme – had to select for review one of the novels shortlisted for this year’s Dylan Thomas Prize, a £30,000 literary award for writers under the age of 39.

Georgia chose to review My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent, an exceptional and challenging book that has been called ‘this year’s must read novel’.

“Georgia impressed the judges with her ability to appreciate the nuance of the novel and she wrote with a sophisticated confidence that is rare to find in someone of her age,” says Joanna Dudley, Curriculum Leader for English. “We’re really excited to hear that a new creative writing magazine based at Swansea University is interested in publishing her review – this would be a tremendous achievement for Georgia to see her work in print.”
