Gower College Swansea in running for accountancy awards

Updated 30/01/2018

Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted as Accountancy College of the Year (Public Sector) at the forthcoming PQ Magazine awards – a title it scooped in 2016.

In fact, this is the third consecutive year that the College – currently the only FE organisation in the UK to be awarded Platinum Partner status by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants – has been honoured at these awards.

In 2017 Paul Sizer, Curriculum Leader for Accountancy and Finance, was named Accountancy Personality of the Year and Jayne Walker, Lecturer and Mentor for Accountancy, picked up the award for Training Manager/Workplace Mentor of the Year.

“Of course we are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for a PQ Award,” says Paul. “This is a testament once again to the dedication and professionalism of the entire teaching team and our students.”

Also in the running for an award this year is student Kelly-Marie Besley who has been nominated in the NQ (Newly Qualified) of the Year category.

Kelly-Marie progressed from AAT Level 2 to Level 4 and then transferred straight onto an ACCA course - passing every paper along the way - as well as completing a Payroll course at the College.

Currently working at Matsui Components Europe Ltd in Ammanford as part of the Accountancy team, Kelly-Marie has also represented Gower College Swansea at WorldSkills competition finals.

“Proving to be a fantastic role model and inspiring all those around her, Kelly-Marie’s mother has also begun the AAT journey and is well on her way to the Level 3 course,” adds Paul.
