The sun shines for Dragon Sports day

Following another successful year of its schools coaching programme, Gower College Swansea recently held its annual ‘Dragon Multi Skills & Sport’ taster event, in conjunction with Sports Development Swansea.

The event, which took place at the Elba sports complex in Gowerton, saw over 600 pupils from 15 local schools enjoy sessions in various activities and sports including hockey, football, rounders and rugby.

Dragon Multi-Skills & Sport is aimed at children aged between 7 and 11 and is the next step on the sporting skills ladder after Play to Learn, which is run for children aged between 3 and 7.

“The ethos of the multi-skills approach is for young people to develop key physical skills that are applicable to, and transferable across, a range of different sports,” says lecturer Sion Cairns. “The support we receive from partners including Badminton Wales, Golf Development Wales, Gower Golf Club, Sports Development Swansea and ASDA Gorseinon ensures the continued success of this event and the meaningful development of sport, exercise and health for young people in Wales.”
