The Data Technician (Data Analyst) Level 3 qualification develops the skills required for data management, reporting, analysis and visualisation. It includes key topics such as data ethics and security, and is suitable for learners employed in roles that require data handling and analysis.
Learners will gain critical thinking skills in sourcing and using data, as well as explore techniques for data modelling and software for data visualisation.

This qualification is appropriate for individuals in roles such as Data Technician, Junior Data Analyst, Data Administrator, Data Support Assistant, Data Management Technician, IT Data Support Technician, Business Intelligence Assistant and Data Compliance Technician.
It is ideal for those wishing to improve their data analysis skills or transition into digital roles.
Learners will be allocated a dedicated Tutor/Assessor who will work closely with both the learner and employer to ensure the qualification aligns with individual roles and prior experience.
The programme is delivered remotely using Microsoft Teams, with face-to-face training available if required. Training schedules are agreed upon between the learner and employer to minimise disruption to the organisation.
Optional units
Learners must complete mandatory units and select optional units to meet the required credits. Optional units may include:
- Apply data ethics to data activities
- Create databases to store and retrieve date
- Produce data visualisations to support business insights
- Perform information management operations
- Interpret digital information
- Process and analyse structured data types.
Assessment
Learners will build a portfolio of evidence including reports, visualisations and documentation of data activities. Assessment may include professional discussions, presentations and practical demonstrations. Regular one-to-one meetings with Tutors/Assessors will support progress tracking and assessment.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is permissible if achieved within the last three years.
