Software Developer Level 3 - Qualification
Overview
The Software Developer Level 3 qualification equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to design, develop, test and improve software solutions.
It covers essential areas such as coding, software design, system security and professional practice, preparing learners for roles including front-end, back-end, full-stack developer, DevOps engineer or software tester.

It is suitable for new entrants to the field as well as existing staff looking to upskill in modern software development practices.
Learners will be allocated a dedicated Tutor/Assessor who will work closely with both the learners and employer to ensure the level selected is suited to individual roles and prior skills and knowledge.
Delivery is primarily remote via Microsoft Teams, with workplace visits, and face-to-face sessions available if required. Dates and times for the training will be agreed between the learner and employer to ensure minimum disruption to the organisation.
Units
The following units will be delivered as part of the qualification, with additional units available upon request:
- Software design and development
- Coding and programming principles
- System security
- Professional practice in IT.
Assessment
Learners will build a portfolio of evidence including code samples, design documents, test results and screenshots of completed work. This portfolio will be reviewed during regular one-to-one meetings with Tutors/Assessors and used for assessment purposes.
