As part of the College's ongoing Enterprise activities, we were thrilled to welcome back former student Lucy Quick to lead a masterclass and Q&A with current learners at the Gorseinon Campus.
Since studying A Level Drama at the College, Lucy’s career has thrived. Originally training in Musical Theatre, she worked on several West End productions before co-founding her own business – Perform – where she is now Principal.
Starting with just two schools in Primrose Hill and Islington, Perform has grown to over 350 venues across London and the South West of England. It now encompasses hundreds of weekly classes for children aged 4-12, holiday courses and Perform for Schools - a thriving programme of workshops in primary schools.
Lucy readily admits that the cross-transferable skills she acquired as a Musical Theatre performer set her in excellent stead as an entrepreneur.
The talk was aimed at second year L3 Performing Arts students and the L4 Acting and Musical Theatre learners, many of whom are currently going through the process of auditioning for specialist drama schools.
“We were delighted that Lucy was able to take time out of her busy schedule to return to Gorseinon and spend time with our students,” says Wyn Richards, Curriculum Leader for the UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance (Acting). “It was very inspiring to hear her talk about her career path and she had some excellent advice for them on audition tips, how to deal with nerves and how to carve out a career in the competitive world of musical theatre.”
