Gower College Swansea is proud to support White Ribbon Day 2025, joining the national movement to end violence against women and girls. This year’s theme, We Speak Up, encourages men and boys to take positive action by challenging harmful attitudes, calling out unacceptable behaviour, and promoting a culture of respect.
As part of the national campaign, Sarah King, Vice Principal of People and Wellbeing, and Lorraine Evans, Wellbeing Advisor, proudly represented the College at the White Ribbon Event held at The Senedd and organised by NFWI Wales. The event took place ahead of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, beginning 25 November, and included a powerful candlelight vigil marking International White Ribbon Day and the UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Throughout this week, the College will host a range of activities across all campuses designed to engage learners and staff.
Stalls will be set up across campuses to encourage male learners and staff to sign the White Ribbon pledge and publicly commit to speaking up. Learners will also be invited to contribute to a video message of support for White Ribbon Day, reinforcing the importance of positive male role-modelling.
Each campus will feature a dedicated pledge tree where male staff and students can write their personal pledge to Speak Up. These visual displays will symbolise the collective commitment being made across the College community.
As part of the College’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding and equality, tutors will deliver special White Ribbon awareness sessions. These tutorials will address the realities of violence against women and girls, highlight the importance of respectful relationships, and empower male learners to play an active role in creating safer communities.
Staff will also be encouraged to become White Ribbon ambassadors and champions by completing the accredited training module.
Sarah King, Vice Principal for People and Wellbeing at Gower College Swansea, said:
“As an accredited White Ribbon organisation, we are committed to playing an active role in preventing violence against women and girls.
“White Ribbon Day is an important reminder that everyone has a part to play. By encouraging our male learners and staff to speak up, challenge harmful behaviour, and act as allies, we are helping to build a culture of respect and safety across our College and wider community.”
